Our Work
Below is a list of our on-going projects...

01

In-house VSP for Mandible Reconstruction
The current commercial solutions of Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP) have limitations, including high costs and time delays in receiving surgical guides. Increased time leads to a higher chance of tumor growth, affecting planning accuracy. Our in-house VSP results showed decreased operating room time and improved VSP accuracy. Read more here.
02
Real-Time Image-Guided Surgery
An ongoing project in collaboration with the UBC ISTAR Group.

03
Functional Modeling
An ongoing project in collaboration with the UBC ISTAR Group to develop a real-time image-guided surgery technology and adapt it for clinical testing. Read more here.
04
Trans-oral Robotic Surgery (TORS) & Integration of Ultrasound Guidance
Trans-oral Robotic Surgery (TORS) is a cutting-edge, minimally invasive surgical technique that uses robotic assistance to treat oropharyngeal cancer. Since imitating the first TORS program in Western Canada in 2018, Dr. Prisman has treated more than 150 patients using TORS and led studies focusing on patient outcomes following TORS, and the integration of ultrasound guidance during TORS. 05
3D Pathology for Interdisciplinary Head & Neck Cancer Communication
An ongoing project in collaboration with the BCCA Radiation Oncologist aims to enhance communication between medical professionals after surgery. This includes the potential to minimize high doses to reconstruction and critical structures and target high doses on positive resection margins.
